Hawaii's Unemployment Rate
Hawaii's unemployment rate is among the lowest compared to other states and it rated upon the 8th lowest in the nation according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Lincoln, Nebraska has the lowest rate of 4.2%, of unemployment. Additional cities Bismarck, Nebraska and North Dakota and Ames, Iowa are upon the lowest of unemployment. The top five cities with the highest unemployment rates are all located in the state of California. The cities are: Modesto, California 19.1%, Visalia-Porterville, California, 18.7%, Stockton California 18.4%., Stockton, California 18.4% and Salinas, California 17.7%.
Baton Rouge, LA with a 6.4%, Madison, WI 6.7%, Oklahoma City, OK 6.7% and Washington D.C.-Arlington-Alexandria, VA with 6.9% employment as of April 2010. As of November 2nd 2011, Honolulu has seen a small rise in their unemployment rates going from 5.5% to 5.7% but they are still found to be within the lowest unemployment rate. The national average unemployment rate as of September 2011 is at 9.1%.
While their unemployment is on the low side there still needs to be an improvement in resources for job seekers. Honolulu's economy is heavily based on tourism and the economic turndown has greatly affected the state. Tourists continue to visit Hawaii to enjoy their beautiful beaches and underwater attractions. There are Hawaii residents have taken part in the anti-capitalist protest movement in the "Occupy Honolulu" events. Until the economy improves within the other states of the United States the problems will continue.
